Nala’s Legacy: A Tribute in the Canton Animal Hospital Memorial Garden

Nala’s story began on a chilly January day when fate intervened. A simple decision to turn around changed her life—and ours—forever.

It was just another day when I spotted a box on the side of the road. At first, I passed it by, heading to a Lion’s game, but something deep inside urged me to turn back. What I found inside was nothing short of a miracle—two tiny puppies, abandoned but full of life.

Choosing to skip the game, I rushed the puppies to the nearest veterinary clinic, where they were found to be only five weeks old. The veterinarian provided detailed instructions on how to care for them, ensuring they would grow strong and healthy.

When the time came, one puppy found a loving home with a close friend. The other, Nala, stayed with me—becoming an irreplaceable part of our family.

A Life Well-Lived

From the start, Nala was special. Her kind, gentle spirit made her a joy to be around. She loved people, other dogs, and even cats. But her favorite thing in the world? Baby snuggles.

Nala thrived in our home, filling our lives with happiness. She adored long walks, games of fetch, and most of all, simply being close to her family. She was never far from my side, always seeking comfort and giving unconditional love in return.

One of the most touching aspects of Nala’s life was the unbreakable bond she shared with her mother. They were inseparable, always looking out for one another. If one felt afraid, the other was there for reassurance. Their connection was something truly special—an example of love in its purest form.

For many years, Nala remained healthy. Apart from ear surgeries for hematomas, she lived a vibrant, joyful life. But in late 2024, something changed.

Facing the Unthinkable

Nala began showing strange behaviors—falling over, eating things she shouldn’t, and even forgetting her house training. Bloodwork results were normal, but deep down, we knew something was wrong. Dr. Vig helped us explore possible causes, from doggy dementia to the heartbreaking reality of a brain tumor.

Then, in January 2025, everything changed.

Nala suffered a severe seizure, and from that moment, her condition rapidly declined. Masses appeared on her body. She lost her once vibrant energy. The joyful dog who had spent a lifetime by my side was fading, and we had to make the most difficult decision of all.

On February 28th, 2025, Nala was laid to rest.

She was more than just a pet—she was family. She gave us endless love, and she will forever hold a place in our hearts.
