Bruno’s Story: A Life of Love, Joy, and Unbreakable Spirit
Keywords:
One Thursday morning, an 8-week-old Scottish Terrier puppy was brought to Canton Animal Hospital, Michigan, for euthanasia. His owners were heartbroken—he had been born with Scotty Cramp, a genetic disorder in dogs that causes movement issues after exercise or excitement. They believed he had no quality of life.
As I, Dr. Ajaib Dhaliwal, DVM, examined the tiny pup, I saw something deeper—resilience, determination, and an unbreakable spirit. I gently advised the owners against pet euthanasia, believing he could still enjoy a happy and fulfilling life.
Wanting a second opinion, I sent a photo of Bruno to my wife. The moment she saw him; she was instantly drawn to him. That same day, we adopted him and brought him home. My wife and Kids lovingly named him Bruno, and from that moment, he became a cherished part of our family.
Bruno quickly bonded with our two-year-old Golden Retriever, forming an inseparable friendship. Despite his condition, he lived every moment with joy, energy, and enthusiasm—running, playing, and proving that love and care can overcome even genetic challenges in pets.
As he grew, Bruno became a beloved figure in our community. He served as a greeter at my wife’s business, welcoming customers with his friendly personality and playful spirit. He had a natural talent for making people smile—a true entertainer, always full of life.

Contact UsBruno’s Battle with Cancer
At the age of 10, Bruno was diagnosed with urinary bladder cancer, a condition that often leads to painful urination and a decline in quality of life. Determined to give him the best chance, we started chemotherapy, and for two months, Bruno fought bravely. Unfortunately, the cancer relapsed, and he began to experience significant discomfort.
Realizing that his quality of life had deteriorated, we made the heart-wrenching decision to say goodbye. Surrounded by love, Bruno crossed the rainbow bridge with dignity. Though losing him was one of the hardest moments of our lives, we knew it was the final act of love we could give him—to let him go peacefully and without pain.
Bruno’s Lasting Legacy
Bruno was more than just a pet—he was a cherished family member, a loving companion, and a source of endless joy. His memory lives on in the hearts of everyone who met him and in Canton Animal Hospital’s Memorial Garden, where his legacy of love and resilience continues to inspire others.
Bruno, you will always be my little fighter, my wife’s favorite greeter, and our forever friend. ❤️
